About the workshop

Rita Mazza, an artist, performer, and choreographer, will lead a two-day artistic workshop at Onassis Stegi on Visual Sign Choreographies, a practice that combines elements of Sign Languages with abstract dance movements and choreographies.

The workshop introduces participants to the methods of creating Visual Sign Choreographies, exploring how abstract visual forms can evolve from concrete elements, such as single words or sentences. Participants who use sign language can experiment with these elements creatively, while non-signing participants will have the opportunity to learn about and engage with Sign Language art forms.

This workshop is designed for a mixed group of signing and non-signing participants, focusing on creating an inclusive environment where everyone can collaborate and communicate equally.

This workshop welcomes deaf and disabled artists with previous experience in dance and/or theater, movement, and choreography, who are interested in exploring unique forms of expression and the intersection of language and movement.
